I have cable internet at home. And I've realized that my speeds are

date hardware that needs replaced?

Thanks

Neither your Ti-book or Panther should adversely affect your your broadband speeds. Do your parents, your in-laws and you use the same provider with the same advertised speeds? If the speeds and provider are the same then maybe the problem is your neighborhood. Are there a lot of broadband users in your neighborhood? If there are then that could slow down your speeds especially during peak hours because with cable your using the same bandwidth.
