Since it wasn't a huge amount of time between when they purchased the code from Connectix, do you suppose it maybe had to do with something as simple as a time crunch and not some ulterior motive. I'm not a Microsoft fanboy, but people that go out of their way to assign something to some ulterior motive just amaze me.

I think a lot of us have noticed a pattern of Microsoft promising the world and then not delivering it... so when they do it again, yeah, I tend to think it's a pattern of behavior.

One thing that is undeniable is that they are putting the screws to those who want to use their own version of Windows with VPC by delaying the release of the VPC without an OS.

If you are selling "VPC with Windows XP SP2" then there's 0 reason why you can't sell "VPC without Windows"

If you have VPC ready to ship but are waiting for SP2 to be released, there's still no reason why you can't release the Windows 2000 version or the version without an OS.

And they advertise VPC 6 as only working with Win2000 and WinXP, when in fact it will work with 95 and 98 as well.

Then there's the reality that for every satisfied VPC user there's less of a need for them to run Windows.

It's possible that it was a time crunch (although they delayed VPC by a significant amount of time, and then said it was "Done, but we're not shipping it yet"), so that really doesn't seem likely.

There's always VPC8...

ps - btw I fully expect that Longhorn will have some kind of integrated VPC (ala "Carbon") if Microsoft follows through on their plan to break all existing Windows programs for it...
