Hi there,

Congrats to your friend on her new purchase. I am sure she will be very happy with it. I certainly have enjoyed my 15" Al PB since purchasing it in 2003.

hi folks,
a friend just bought a new shiny 15" G4 and we have a couple of questions to
get started:
- filling in the registration at startup and sending to Apple is enough to have the PB registred (with serial Nr., etc) to her name for all purposes?
Or is something else needed?

Registering the PB with Apple basically allows her access to her complimentary 90 days of phone/tech support. After that, if she chooses to purchase Applecare, she would have a total of 3 years of phone support available to her in addition to having hardware coverage for the same amount of time. However, she has a year in which to purchase Applecare.

- I think I vaguely remember somebody mentioning additional services for registering the Serial Nr. There's such a thing? If yes, does it make sense?
(we are in the UK)

All I know of is the Applecare plan which is directly connected to the serial number. When you call in for tech support of any kind, they will normally always ask for the serial number before they answer any questions.

- Battery: there was some advice for getting started on the right foot with the battery. Was it charging up for some time, or discharging it to the
bone, baking, freezing,

I have had my PB for over two years now and initially was instructed to leave it unplugged and run the battery down to where you get the reserve battery power warning. Then turn it off and plug in the power, allowing it to charge until full (the color on the power adapter will go from orange to green). Then I just started using it. I am still impressed with the length of use I get on each charge.

I am not sure if anything has changed with the new PB's, but this would be a good opportunity for her to call Applecare and ask whatever questions she has about getting started. After all, It is free for her for the first 3 months.
