Hi listers,

For the first time I have experienced a problem with a Maxtor HD which I
bought somewhere in 2000, a Diamond Maxtor Plus 30 gig, so it's still
under warranty.
Lately, but not always and mostly on restarts, the HD (which is a slave
in my B&W Rev1 [yes I know]) will spin up and immediately spin down and
then I'll hear the head crashing against the plates so that my Mac gives
me the question mark. Usually one or two restarts will fix that, but
after a few weeks of PRAM zap and Cuda resets I thought I should notice
Maxtor about this problem. They confirmed that my drive is faulty so
that I could get a RMA number which I did. I have chosen for the
advanced option, meaning that they'll send me a replacement first and
requiring I'll send the defective HD in the same box back in 30 days. I
will do that after I'll receive the replacement, but what if they cannot
reproduce my problem, because like I said before it doesn't always fail,
could that be a problem?

TIA,
Marc
