Hi Lincoln,

Apple probably screwed up again after the latest Security Update like Eric already
said.
I had the same problem after the 7-12-02 Security Update.

This is how I fixed it:

1. Make sure you are logged in as a user who's allowed to administer the system and
that your login DOESN'T have a BLANK password.
2. Open Terminal, and type "sudo mv /usr/sbin/softwareupdate ~" (this asks for a
password; type YOUR password; you can copy and paste this line if you want, notice
the SPACE before the '~" at the end; don't copy the quotes)
3. Run the 10.1.5 combo installer
4. Reboot
5. Run Terminal, and type "sudo mv ~/softwareupdate /usr/sbin/".

What it does is that it temporarily moves the 'softwareupdate' file which allows
you to install the updates manually.

About the Software requirements for installing the Mac OS X Update Combo 10.1.5 at
http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n122011 : In the past when you had OS X 10.1
installed you had to install the Installer Update and an old Security Update first,
but now it only requires the Security Update 7-18-02 to be installed before you can
install the 10.1.5 combo update.
So I suggest you install the Security Update 7-18-02 first:
http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n75304.

If it won't allow you to install the Security Update 7-18-02, because the HDs are
greyed out, I suggest you do the same as I suggested earier with the terminal.
Then when you have that update installed, try installling the 10.1.5 combo update
the regular way. If that doesn't work use the terminal way here too.

HTH,
Marc
