I just got a Beige 233 machine for my mother, and I was trying to decide how to set it up. Reliability is the key thing (this will replace a *crotchety* 80MHz 7100). How unbearable would OS X be on this machine (the Beige, not the 7100! <g>)? She never complained about her 7100's speed. I've seen a 300 MHz G3 processor for $25; considering I spent $110 on the rest of the machine, should I go this much farther?
The 7100 went down a lot because of the print spool getting clogged while she was trying to print pictures, but other things took it down too. She wants to browse the web and write letters, and do a little GraphicConverter stuff too. She's very patient, as long as the machine doesn't crash. She'd probably prefer to stick her ancient Nisus Writer. Would she need to start a virtual session to run classic apps? Also, how's the SCSI on these machines? I was thinking about just plugging her 6G scsi disk with the 4G ATAPI that came with it. I have a 2930B card, but if the on board scsi is decent I'd just as soon use it.
