I agree that OS X is a wonderfull OS, but the speed hit is there, and 
I won't be using it as my main OS until the G4 550 ZIF I'm about to 
order arives. I suppose it depends on what you do with it, it's fine 
for email, web, word processing on a low end G3, but anything more 
than that and you have a performance hit.
