There was a time (Sat, Feb 1, 2003 at 1:53 AM)
when Brian Christmas said this thing:

The screens are freezing. Everything just stops with no warning or other
indications like the screen graying down or anything.
I have two older monitors:
1. ViewSonic 17GA (1024x768, 75 Hertz)
2. ViewSonic E771 (1024x768, 75 Hertz)
I didn't know there were firmware updates for monitors. Something I
should check?
Apple System Profiler says my boot ROM is 1.1f4.
I just installed an ATI Radeon 7000 which is driving Monitor 1. My XClaim
VR 128 is driving Monitor 2.
It's possible I installed the October ATI Retail Update _after_
installing Jaguar (10.2). Could this have actually replaced more recent
drivers from Apple? If so, I'm not sure how to get those back now that
I've updated to 10.2.3.
OWC Tech Support suggested that letting the Apple Chess program play
against itself over and over would be a good test to see if these lock-
outs are processor related. Something to do with it being purely math-
related computations, eliminating other influences like graphics.
I watched it for a while and then turned to Sigma Chess and had it
churning away with itself for about 6 hours (20 moves required in 2.5
hours). That's pretty interesting to review. No problems so far.
In System Profiler, there is a tab called Logs.
Might there be some information buried in there that would help me
isolate the cause?
