CCC on the computer.

Hmm. That's the sort of thing a boot disk in 10.2 would be good for. I made
one that works, but it takes some time to put together and forever to boot. Too
bad an install disk won't let you run things like CCC.

So maybe what you need to do is install an X system from the install disk, just
a basic system. Then run CCC and clone the disk image system to your partition.
I'm not sure if you can clone a system to a system partition that has been used
to boot the computer.

There may be a way to boot your computer from the external drive. Look at the
latest version of XPostFacto
(http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/Archive/XPostFacto3.0a11.sit).
It should allow you to boot into a system installed on a firewire drive using a
9.x system on the computer as a helper. Then you could clone your system to a
clean partition.

All that being said, I want to confess that I've been trying to install Panter
on my Beige using XPostFacto and have had a mess of problems, including
trashing my reliable 10.2.8 system and deblessing my 9.2. Afer hours of
sitting an watching the machine reboot between repair efforts, I've got it
almost back to normal, but it's been rocky and educational, and it tells me how
little I really know.

And I still have to get Panther going.

Good luck,
Rich
