It may be time to run Micromat's TechTool Pro on that machine. http://www.micromat.com/ Either version 3 or 4 should do the job for the G3 hardware. But version 4 is "built from the ground up for Mac�OS�X" and would be better in the future for OS X files. It would be a shame to buy a new drive if a utility can fix a few bad blocks. Oh, have you run First Aid from the Disk Utility?
