1. The cable signal coming in to my building is very poor - the cable modem was able to get an intermittent signal maybe 4 times in the week and a half that I had it.
Figure out how the cable is routed through your building and who owns what pieces. IOW, sometimes the cable company owns the whole route, and sometimes the landlord owns the segments within the building. Then contact the appropriate people and work with them to improve the signal strength to make it usable. Be patient. Be diplomatic. Work with managers, not the script-reader that answers the phone. It's not easy, but it can be done...
