If you're in OS 9 make sure Discribe has enough memory. I've never used it, but when I used Toast I could modify how much RAM was used for a buffer...it may depend on the memory allocation to Discribe, too.

Haven't used OS9 since I downloaded and installed 10.2.6. I like X better but 10.2.8 kept crashing on my system.

Also I plan to upgrade the memory with 3-256 Mb sticks from OWC soon. I assume this will improve the burn speed a bit, at least I hope so! Also how difficult is it to bump up the processor speed to say 300 Mhz? Will this help? Thanks for the info Bruce.

Then memory is likely your problem. OS X *does* love it's ram. 256 megs is about the bare minimum for a functional system, imo, and is likely why you kept crashing in 10.2.8. (which is rock solid in my G3 Frankenmac.)

Next time you're burning a CD have a terminal window open and type 'w' at the command line, I'll bet your load average is way up there...

Overclocking can help; this will help more: <http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?ID=6485&Item=OWCZG4450B533> which is now down to $150 (that's the processor I have in my system) or this one <http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?ID=5648&Item=PLGPFZ800> which at $199 is getting a little pricey for a Beige box these days, but that 800 Mhz G3 would likely smoke the G4's in most stuff.
