Just a message from Doug...
Here I have a 4.3GB Western Digital 68-pin drive connected to the 
internal SCSI bus with an adapter.  It works just fine.

With the external burner, it recognizes the blank CD, and I can burn it 
with iTunes, but afterwards it can't recognize the CD.

I know older versions of OS X did have problems with SCSI.
