I've got my eye on getting one...I'm dog-tired of paying big bucks for ink cartridges...don't even tell me about refilling, it doesn't work. I'm bidding on one on eBay right now, as it happens. > > Inkjet printers, OTOH, are all more or less disposable. None, in my > experience, last all that long. Actually my HP 810c, a freebie from Apple acquired in 1999 with my Blue-And-White G3, is as reliable as Old Faithful. The thing is built quite solidly and the cartridges, while hideously expensive, give you a new printhead with each cartridge change. I also have a StyleWriter 1200 that is still going strong since 1995. Again, the Canon cartridge for that printer has a head attached, so you get a fresh print head every time. Beware Epsons and Canons that you replace the ink chambers on but not the printheads. Ink clogs are fatal to these printers. I have an Epson that is on its way to the Boneyard (actually Goodwill) because it's been sitting around for a year and it's probably fubared from dried ink. The reason I'm going laser over inkjet is consumable costs. Considering that two inkjet cartridges that will last a ream and a half of paper cost $66+, the cost of the laser toner cartridge isn't all that much. Especially when you consider that will last you for about 10x as many sheets of paper as those ink cartridges do.
