Actually, on a per-page basis laser printers are the cheapest printer solution going. They don't really cost so much more You can get them for <$300 these days quite readily, and a used one can be had for <$100, though shipping kills yah), and a toner cartridge is good for 5-10,000 pages generally, whereas ink carts are only good for a couple of hundred. Heck HP's low end color printer is only $500, and it comes with 5,000 page cartridges.


Moreover, you can turn off a laser printer, not print for two weeks, turn it back on and it'll print just fine. You just can NOT do that with an inkjet.

That said, one department in the College has gotten two Brother laser printers in for their Macs, and have been pleased with them. I'll withhold judgment for five years, though.
