Um, that's partially true at best...
The problem with eBay is that there is nothing to stop people from leaving
you "retaliatory" feedback if you decide to "neg" them.
Yes, there is. If the feedback is truely "retaliatory" and not constructive, REPORT IT TO EBAY. They will review it and remove it if necessary. They'll even smak the abuser.
My experience is that Ebay does absolutely nothing about false retaliatory feedback. They won't even reply to complaints. A seller once sent me broken junk and refused to take it back, so I left him negative feedback, and he retaliated by ruining my perfect feedback record with a vicious neg of his own containing dirty lies. Looking at his record, I found that he had done this to many other people besides me. Contacting them by e-mail, I found that most of us had complained individually and gotten nothing but silence from Ebay. So we all banded together via e-mail and sent Ebay a group complaint, to see if we could get noticed that way. All we got was more silence. One guy did report that he had received a terse note from Ebay referring him to some boilerplate statement somewhere on their site that says most people are able to recognize retaliatory feedback for what it is, and will discount it. (Oh sure.) In other words, their attitude is: live with it and forget about it. They can't be bothered.
Ebay got its fee from this seller, who is a big-time peddler on their site, and that's all they care about.
