Some drives, notably a Maxtor I have on a beige G3, are just noisy during normal operation. Hard drives are subject to fail at ANY time. They can be new and fail or 10 years old and still running like new. Keep backups. Don't worry about drives failing. They are getting better and cheaper all the time.

You can hear my ibook's hard drive run. Click, click, click, as the hard
drive works. Not a constant noise and it has been this way since we got it
about a year ago.

Is this a sign of failure?
Do the ibook's hard drive last longer than the 2 year hard drives you all
are talking about??
