Hello and happy 2006 to all.

I aim to be self-supportive 100% with all things personal computing. I have succeeded with a lot of help from Google and lists such as this (deepest thanks to all).

The switch to OSX from the end-user point of view was not traumatic. It was even fun. I'd guess the fun factor is even better now with Tiger.

But spending hundreds of hours learning the innards of Unix is something that doesn't appeal to many. And in work environments, betting the farm on expensive parts and hard-to-find technicians is not the best choice, IMHO.

IIRC, the first encounter I had with the innards of OSX was to create a host file for blocking porn sites in my daughter's Mac. Lots of bad memories from that.

My coming G4 will be dual boot with Tiger. I may play with it and maybe get to know the new stuff, specially ColorSync. But I don't anticipate ever using it for serious work. I work in translations and virtually all the standard SW for that is for Wintel, not to mention dictionaries and the such.

Best.

The thing for me STILL being so "die-hard" for OS 9 now since reading
that book isn't so much the fear of getting "lost" with OS X as in
feeling like I don't know how to use a computer anymore (I did have a
slight issue with this too, but the book assuaged it) but rather,
