Hi,
that was my attitude when I first tried OSX (Jaguar) on an upgraded
(Sonnett G4 800) 9600, slow and unreliable.
When i moved to a Quicksilver 800 (same processor speed, but wow, what
a difference!), I completely changed my mind and now I am "happy as a
pig in s%^t", sorry for the french;-).
Currently I have 10.3.9 and I wouldn't go back for no money, with OS9 I
had to restart several times a day, with OSX I can run my G4 for a week
or more with no probs ...
I guess it all depends on the hardware you run, if you have an old
unsupported system or an old and outdated version of X you might have
trouble, but with a recent OS with all the current patches it is indeed
a great experience.
Currently running:
G4 QS 800
768MB RAM
Radeon 9800
40 + 160 ATA drives
120 + 200 SATA drives
external 80 FW drive
LaCie lightscribe internal DVD burner
Que external FW CDRW
and the only problem I have is the occasional failure to mount FW
drives, fixed by unplugging and re-plugging them in.
Hope he changes his mind and gives it another try (with the proper
hardware)
In regard to intel macs in two three years time we'll all have one, if
we still will be using macs.
Cheers
Andrea

Many respond to the original of this post singing the praises of OSX

is fine. I have a computer with OSX Panther and I am not impressed
with it.
I'm really sorry to hear that. Personally, I think Panther is the
best OS Apple has ever released. Second to System 6, that is.
The Intel machines do not worry me, I probably will never have one.
Wow. What will you use when your current systems are no longer
maintainable?
