1) you're NOT going to be buying 2,048 Macs, rather, you're going to be buying board-level PPC solutions, of which there are several, and 2) your're NOT goign to be buying 2,048 MacOS licenses, rather, you're going to be "buying" an open-source license (Linux, say) and then duplicating it across all processors. That's 2,048 instances of Linux in one room alone. Right now, Lawrence Livermore National Labs has 2,048 PPCs in a cluster, and it is planning a new cluster, one which will consist of 131,072 slower speed, but also much lower power processors, of undetermined architecture, not necessarily PPCs.
