Now, to Browsers: I am trying to get used to the 10+ system. Like
some things--don't like other things, Safari being one of them. I
have IE Explorer 5.2.3 on the OS 9 & it runs fine in the Classic
Environment. I don't know if I've tried to run it under OS 10. I
miss Sherlock 2 as for some reason, although it is on the 9 drive,
it won't run on this computer. Anyone know how to remedy that? I
just get a message, something to the effect that "this computer
does not support Sherlock 2". I don't like OS 10's "Find" command
as I think it does a lousy job. Don't like the way site findings
display on 10 from the "Find" command.
I never thought I was a person who didn't like change, but I guess
I'm just getting old! LOL
Upgrade to 10.4. Spotlight is Sherlock on meth AND steroids, without
all the "rob you in your sleep and smash your furniture" side
effects ;-)
I have Foxfire (which for some reason, doesn't seem to function
well) & still have an old version of Netscape on the 9 drive, but
don't use it as it is a really old version. Two more questions: Is
there a newer version of IE that will run on OS 10? And can I
upgrade IE on Classic 9 to a newer version?
IE should have come with 10.3. But IE Sux. Period. It was the best of
a bad lot in OS 9, but it's so massively eclipsed by everything else
in OS X that it's not funny.
Microsoft has completely dropped it, as well, they don't offer it for
download, haven't updated it since 2001, and offically EOL'ed it.
They surrendered.
What doesn't function about Firefox? It's my day-in day-out bread and
butter browser.
Other browsers to try (and OS X isn't picky, download 'em all, try
'em all...I have, at last count, 7 browsers installed on my system)
Firefox 1.5 <http://www.getfirefox.com/>
Camino Completely mac-native, based on same browser code core as FF
<http://www.caminobrowser.org/>
Mozilla <http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/>
Opera <http://www.opera.com/>
Shiira <http://hmdt-web.net/shiira/en>
OmniWeb <http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omniweb/>
iCab <http://www.icab.de/>
Plus Netscape 8 (which is largely the same as Firefox), and others,
I'm sure I've forgotten.
