Hi Shaun,
That isn't true. In the manual, section 7.6 I believe it is, it says,
"Unlike other monsters snakes can't be killed even with a sword."
The original Montezuma's Revenge wouldn't allow you to kill snakes and 
neither does this version. Though a way earlier version of the game did.
