Nath do you remember a few years ago there were two serial killers of
children in Nithari who were caught? What punishments would you advocate
for the killers? Community service?
You must be reading about the recent judgment by the SC on Aruna
Shanbag's case for euthanasia. The ward boy who brutally sodomized her
and made her into a vegetable got off after 7 years of RI. Aruna has
been in that state for 37 years and counting. Do you think it is fair?
Some crimes, Nath, are so heinous and so pointless that they defy
understanding. I am not advocating brutal punishments for every crime.
These are the "rarest of the rare" crimes.
What would you do, Nath, if you were a poverty stricken 15 years old and
some rich 71 year old man lusted after your body and hurt you every
single day? As a 15 year old, probably nothing. But as an able bodied
adult? Those teenagers that the murdered man hired to serve his sexual
needs, those teenagers' lives are blighted by lust! Can they ever
forgive that man?
I am not a lawyer and I am sure legal experts like Aditya B. would shed
more informed light on crimes and punishments. I am merely talking from
the point of view of an outraged human being.
