Previously EAtel were a phone and Internet access company when they last supported Baton Rouge customers - I'd imagine that EAtel's interest these days has more to do with their TV/Video delivery opportunities.
Eatel phone and Internet were delivered in Baton Rouge at that time by reselling AT&T lines. When AT&T pulled the rug from under EAtel by raising the line fees to drive them out of the market EAtel quit servicing Baton Rouge. What's planed now seems to be a fiber delivery network to the end-user... Something my buddies inside AT&T promised me was "just around the corner" 20 years ago. I've got AT&T, let me run outside and check ... ... nope - it's still moldy old copper. Sometimes I feel like I'm living in the dark ages.
