The main purpose of metadata is for gentoo management purposes. It allows 
easy identification of who maintaines a certain package. In the original 
specification there were more items in it, but these were removed because 
of controversy on their use(fullness). A part of the problem is that the 
portage people don't feel like adding xml support to portage.
