The main purpose of metadata is for gentoo management purposes. It allows easy identification of who maintaines a certain package. In the original specification there were more items in it, but these were removed because of controversy on their use(fullness). A part of the problem is that the portage people don't feel like adding xml support to portage.
So, going back to our USE Flag description discussion, it would be the best way to add description what useflags do in the ebuilds? I don't wan't to start any flamewars about that, but I think that it would be adding much value to portage, if i'd knew what a specific use flag does to a package. Can anyone of the portage-devs take position to that, plz? :-)
