I'm using the ~x86 keyword and have been for months. I routinely execute 'emerge -u --deep world' to keep things up to date.
Recently, 'emerge -pu --deep world' has started to tell me it wants to downgrade some packages!? Specifically, it wants to perform the following: [ebuild UD] sys-apps/baselayout-1.8.5.8 [1.8.6.2] [ebuild U ] sys-apps/texinfo-4.5 [4.3-r1] [ebuild UD] sys-apps/portage-2.0.46-r12 [2.0.47-r2] *** Portage will stop merging at this point and reload itself, recalculate dependancies, and complete the merge. [ebuild U ] dev-libs/openssl-0.9.6i [0.9.6h] [ebuild U ] sys-apps/procps-3.1.6 [3.1.5] [ebuild U ] media-libs/netpbm-10.11.5 [10.11.4] [ebuild U ] app-admin/gentoolkit-0.1.18-r1 [0.1.17-r11] [ebuild U ] kde-base/kdemultimedia-3.1-r1 [3.1] [ebuild U ] media-libs/imlib2-1.0.6.20030220 [1.0.6-r1] [ebuild UD] app-text/docbook-xml-dtd-4.1.2-r3 [4.2] [ebuild U ] sys-devel/bc-1.06-r5 [1.06-r4] [ebuild N ] dev-util/yacc-1.9.1-r1 [ebuild U ] dev-php/mod_php-4.3.1 [4.3.0-r2] Note that it wants to downgrade baselayout, portage, and docbook-xml-dtd. Why? I don't really care about docbook-xml-dtd, but I am nervous about portage and very nervous about baselayout. What should I do? Should I let it do this? Why does it want to?
