try this: delete everything in your home-dir that looks like this: .DCOPserver_<yourhostname>_ and .Xauthority

After that, go into /tmp and remove all .X*-lock .X11-unix .ICE-unix and mcop-username files.

This solves most kde-startup problems, giben that /etc/hostname is correct, and no stale fifo-files are sitting around.
