David,
This feature will have approximately 70,000 points.

TYPENAME = sections_centroids
I am using AutoCAD Map 2010 but don't know if it uses HTTP compression or not.

QGIS 1.6.0
HTTP compression - Yes
QGIS was very easy to download and install and looks nice to use.
I am looking for a larger WFS dataset - at least 10,000 points, hopefully more
- to see difference in time retrieving a layer using zipped HTTP vs unzipped
HTTP.
If anyone can give me a URL that would be good.

Wondering about what QGis does.

It's a real pity, HTTP 1.1 gzip compression has been there for ages
and it's very
beneficial when accessing a remote WFS server. It seems to me this just
talks
about little attention to OGC standard protocols usage
Cheers
