Seriously now, my greatest inspiration was (is) Rene Descartes. I don't think it's simply all those years I spent in the formal study of philosophy which has influenced my choice here. Rather, it is Descartes insight to shift abstract problems of cognition to spatial ones. Our human hardware is good at locating things in space, having evolved to find the watering hole and the sweet berry patch. By assimilating (for example) a change in abstract values to a spatial bump a whole range of intuitions can be brought to bear which would otherwise not be available to us.
