Mark,

Just a small, and shameless plug, but if you are looking for geolocation
on mobile devices you can also consider our technology which uses
ambient wifi signals to triangulate your location. Just last week we
announced support for a number of new platforms which means we now
support Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Mobile, OS X, Symbian, Linux
and Maemo.

You can download the SDK which is free for non-commercial use at
http://www.skyhookwireless.com/developers/sdk.php

It's a great way to get location on any wifi-enabled device without
having to worry about carriers.

Let me know if you have any questions. Ryan

Subject: [Geowanking] pirating gps

Hi folks. My first post. Interesting discussions even though I barely
know what you're all talking about. Regardless, a question:

Is there any way to grab the gps data on a cellphone if...

1. I'm out in the middle of nowhere
2. there's no cellphone service
3. the phone is not powered up

?

#3 is not a requirement, just a question. I'm wondering how to access
this info for an art project with a big brother theme.
