It must be geography. While New York City is very expensive for most things
Petland Discounts sells the 10 gallon for $6.99. That is not a sale price
either...it's the everyday price. But for everything else I find mail order
to be much less expensive and That Pet Place seems to have the best prices.
You can get the mesh covers at only $4.99 for the 10 gallon at That Pet Place
in Pennsyvania. They can be reached at www.thatpetplace.com. I save a LOT of
money buying my fish, gerbil and cat supplies from them. They may not have
the $10 off coupons like Petsmart and other net retailers, but their prices
are great. They will also send you a very nice catalog of their products if
you request one at
888-THAT-PET
I only buy locally for tanks (since they're inexpensive at Petland) and in
emergencies ...otherwise you can save a lot shopping carefully through mail
order. Even the KMR is only $2.69 for an 8 ounce can, the Hagen Pal Pens run
from only $1.99 up to $8.99, depending on the size. A medium size Timber
Hide-A-Way is only $3.99 at That Pet Place! If I buy this stuff locally it
costs me at least 2 times as much! I hope this is helpful to someone.
