In my last post I have stated what the Cardinal said. I found what he said in the transcript of his recent lecture, the link to which is once again given below: http://www.rcdow.org.uk/lectures/ I have placed what the Cardinal said in quotes, and explicitly indicated that he is the one who said it to avoid any confusion. To ensure that I am not quoting him out of context I have provided the link to the transcript of his lecture in its entirety. Most people, like Cornel, Roland and myself will accept what the Cardinal said at face value. Others like Fr. Ivo will interpret his words in a manner that pleases them, or reaffirms their own beliefs. BTW, Fr. Ivo repeatedly implies that I suggested that the Cardinal was an atheist or an agnostic. I have made no such claim. I have simply shown that the Cardinal seems to believe in a God who is NOT a fact in the world nor an idea nor a hypothesis that can be proved or disproved - a God who is a mystery that cannot be conceptually determined or pinned down, and about whom one can, as Thomas Aquinas did, only have imperfect knowledge, not absolute certainty. I have also drawn a general conclusion for the rest of us to accept or reject, which is that not knowing is a truly humble and honest position. Cheers, Santosh
