The calling cards of the USA forces in Vietnam were Napalm and Agent Orange to
say nothing of the 'conventional' armament. Last week, I was discussing with
some Vietnamese, Cambodians and Laotians the effects of what the Americans did
in the 1960s, when Barak Obama was still in his diapers and I was just a
little older. Under PL 480, the USAID gave us in India wheat as food but not a
grain for seed.... a method to keep us dependent. The Smoke Weed [Eupatorium]
and Parthenium seed that came with the foodgrains are the major weeds in India
today. Both are known as "Congress Weeds". Their proliferation along the rail
tracks and truck routes that transported PL-480 wheat is circumstantial
evidence.
Metal scrap reprocessed in India is showing radiocativity in lift buttons in
Paris. Wonder what it did to the Indian labour handing the scrap and the
manufacture of those metal buttons. Ethics, anyone?
Coming from the subaltern groups, I hope the Obama .... and the
administration he sets up .... will see the world differently. I hope he is not
condemned to Peshwa-shahi like the one that destroyed everything that Shivaji
stood for. In a time of plenty, Maharashtra still reports the maximum farmer
suicides of this decade in the third millenium.
