RNK,

A small clarification: I was actually a supporter of republican candidate Ron
Paul. He is one of the few republicans that supports the core values of the
original party. Almost all of the others are relatively phonies, with Bush
being a total fraud to the republican cause.

Some of Ron Paul's key points:
1) A drastic reduction in America's foot print abroad, by withdrawing from
outdated military alliances, withdrawing from the UN (how can one work with
nations like Iran, N.Korea etc on the security council!), the end to foreign
interventions etc.
2) Simplification of the US tax code, implementation of a flat tax and the
elimination of the IRS.
3) A drastic reduction in government spending and interventions in the market.
Phased elimination of social security, medicaid, massive cuts in defense etc.
How can I trust the government to take "care" of me, when it cannot take care
of itself?
4) Continued support of free trade and free market policies.

My motto is: there is no government like no government. It is a little
exaggerated, but I hope you get my point. Even so, I am happy to see and end
to the Bush nightmare. Although I do not support many of his views, I am pretty
sure that Obama will do a better job. More importantly, it is possible that his
inspirational aura will fire up the nation to do better. A positive attitude
that unites and inspires is half the battle.

In India (and obviously Goa), bad governments have often been a hindrance
rather than a solution. We elect criminals often based on factors such a
religion or on petty promises, and then wonder why the system is so screwed up.
