I am seeing similar results in IE & FF.  Both perform well with
"rescale" set to "false".  Both perform poorly with "rescale" set to
"true".  Both suffer a little with "opacity" set to anything except
"100%".  Try running it in IE on another machine.  I suspect your IE
configuration is different than mine.
