Google is quite happy to allow users like myself to create third-
party, own tile, versions of its product.

With historical mapping projects such as mine, I am forced (was
forced) to use the Google tiles from mt.google.com. The historical
mapping product I am creating is out of step with Google about every
fourth tile in any direction as it was not created to scale, lat or
long 100 years ago. I have to realign every time

I have been doing this project for over a year and I have looked at
every possible timesaving device. I have concluded that there is no
other way.
