I use thunderbird regularly, set it so that messages open in a separate
window, can't remember where that is in the options pages now but its
obvious when you find it.
Use f6 to toggle between different panes in Thunderbird, say the tree
view of mailboxes and list view of messages.
Still haven't worked out how you determine the status of a message, that
is if its unread, replied to etc.
Despite all that I reckon that Thunderbird is the best email client for
the PC since sliced bread.
