Hi,
I will have to say this. Window eyes is up to version 7. The shark is
releasing 14. And yet the shark is not working as well or with as much as
Window eyes is. Yepers! People "myself included" get frustrated when
something doesn't work. But then when you go and listen to some of the
issues the competion's users are dealing with it makes you a little more
accepting of G W Micro's work.
I have a friend who uses JFW and can't even update their Adove player
because all JFW reads is "button, button, button" which do you choose.
<grin>.
I tried using Netflix with JFW back when Netflix was easily usable with W E
and Never was able to watch a movie using JFW.

Well, again do you expect the world to bow down at the feet of a blind
persons usage of technology?
If gwmicro states they are working on things i would venture to say that
they have good hands on it.
If you think about it Gwmicro is making things better I for one would not
want a sloppy product like the shark causenow there is a company that does
not know what they are doing fs i mean they take from other screen readers
blaintly and flaunt it to the high heavens.
Many things they stole from window eyes and other screen readers like system
access.
personally since their court dates with name infringment they should have
sued the company that makes the freedom pads if you get my drift for the use
of the word freedom.
Gwmicro is working their butts off making window eyes the best screen reader
out there.
many times i hear a whining message from this list about how this, or that
is not right with window eyes.
It makes me wonder if the people that are complainning don't really take
into consideration the hours apon hours of coding, compiling testing
retesting gettings tightly set up to work smoothly.
doany of you believe you could do a better job then doug, dan and the rest of
the staff at Gwmicro?
I think not!

Interesting points, yep I'm a proud owner of WE however I think in the past
few versions we've seen an attitude of, "we're the best at GW micro so we'll
just put out what we think is good for our clients and our name will get us
through thick and thin, too hell with any bad feedback we get, our name will
pull us through".
I'd like to think I'm wrong but that's the impression the world seems to
have these days when it comes to Window-Eyes.
Now we're seeing developers who get paid nothing rising through the ranks
with some excellent alternatives when it comes to Screen Reading software,
competition is great! but if WE is going to survive then a better attitude
at the very least needs to be put on display by GW Micro.

In my humble opinion WE is still the best screen reader but has lost
something in its ability to keep up with the changing world.
In the past GW always gave the sales pitch that it was first to support
the latest version of IE or the first to support flash. Now WE doesn't
work well with IE 9 nor does it work well with flash. Has GW lost its
relationship with Microsoft and adobe thus limiting WE ability to work
well with the latest versions? Will GW ever catch up and not be a good
screen reader but at the top when it comes to supporting the latest and
greatest.

Good to see you round and I'm nodding my head in agreement with your
below post.
I'm sure we're now going to hear something from GW Micro regarding your
use of Bootcamp with your Mac and how it causes problems with
Window-Eyes and apps?<smile>.

Hello:
I usually try not to make comments but in this case I have to agree

Sandra regarding apps and Andy's comment regarding 7.0 with scripts.
Here at work I'm running under BootCamp and in case any one wonders,
this is on a Macintosh computer.
I have no loosing of speech unless IE8 takes a dump.
Regarding Sandra's comment about not using Apps, here at work I don't
use them either.
At home running Fusion XP service pack 3 not using apps I don't
experience the los of speecheither.
I've created a batch which kills IE and for the most part time if I
kill
WE as well, WE comes back.
At work sighted people also mentions that IE8 takes a dump of course
they don't put it that way. Smile
One more thing, mentioning BootCamp Windows732 bit and only 2GB of ram.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Smile

Chip, I'm not having problems like people are having. But, I do know
that I don't use a bunch of apps either. Whatever it might be
Window-Eyes is "not!!", rock solid!

Hi Sandra,
And also, look how many are not.
This makes me think it's not window-eyes, but something specific to
some
installations, some pcs. It's unfair, and unhelpful, to say this
version of WE is all screwed up, and tell people to switch or downgrade
or whatever.
It's better to contact support and ask for help with problems; enough
people are working fine, for others to expect to be able to do so.

Andy,
why do you think so few people seem to feel the way you do?
Do you think it possibly could be something on your pc? I'd say most
of the rest of us feel it's as stable as it ever was, and the benefits
of the scripting is just enormous.

WE has become so unstable on the two machines that I have access to
that I have pretty much stopped using it. I just don't
have the time
to keep rebooting and to jump through all the hoops, etc.
Two weeks
ago I had an HD crash on this
machine, and I haven't yet bothered to reinstall WE on
it. Perhaps I'll revisit it when a major upgrade comes around.
Personally, I think the problems began with WE version 7.0 and the
scripting capability. What we gained from the scripts, or apps, as
they're now called, we lost in stability. WE can no longer
lay claim
to being rock solid.
Now, it's as flaky as a teen age girl.

Hi. It sounds like an uninstall and a re-install might be in order
for you. WE is a great screen-reader but trust me, it's a
walk in the
park compared to what I had to go through when I was using the
others...especially jfw. don't even get me started LOL!
either way,
that's really my best suggestion.

Hi All,
Well since the release of 7.5.2 things are worse than ever.
I open an
email and W E just sits there and reads nothing. There is still a
problem with trying to edit a message that I'm composing in
WLM. Also,
now if I'm on a webpage and hit enter on an email link when
the blank
message comes up W E sees the To field as being empty..
However I did
verify through a sighted person that indeed the address was
in the To
field just that W E wouldn't read it. Now there is still
the problem
with spell check in word, which doesn't make sense
because with JFW
and Nvda it works just fine. Why do we using W E have to do
all these
key strokes to use spell check when it has always been as
simple as
tabbing once to the list of suggestions and arrowing to
the one of
your choice and hitting enter. It still works that way with
the other two screen readers.
I've been a faitful W E user since 2003 and have
recommended it to
many people. However now Im afraid that I can no longer do
so because
of the frustration that it causes. Unless some real fixes
take place
This will be the last version iof W E that I will be using.
It may be
$300 cheaper that it's major competitor but lack of ability
to use it
in an efficent manner out-weighs the cost.
