Tom, I think you have missed the point here, namely the purpose of an
Email list. It's really a bonus that we do occasionally hear from GW
staff here and that we do know they watch the list because it is an
indicator of the sorts of things that go on in the real world. But
look at any list. People write to a guide dog list when they want
suggestions from other guide dog handlers for dealing with something.
People write to a Windows list when they want to know how to do
something or to try and figure out a problem. Yes, the point here
really is to talk to each other. I've learned a great deal from other
users about work-arounds, things I flat out didn't know and things
that were problems for everyone so I could stop spending time trying
to figure them out. Sometimes there really is value in expressing an
opinion and learning that others share it. If I'm having a real
problem and want immediate feedback, I'll direct my question to the
tech support Email or phone. But if I called up the company and said
something like it sure doesn't seem like Window-eyes is as solid as
it used to be, I sure wouldn't expect staff to say, me too. That
would be ridiculous!
Of course, there is always place for compliments for any program. If
that was all we did here, it would be very dull and I'd unsubscribe.
But there should be no place to disrespect each other and that too
will make the list less valuable for everyone.
So, may the it works for me, it doesn't work for me exchanges
continue. We won't learn anything if that stops.
