From a little google I would think, that you own some macbook with leopard ....

Did you install XCode with it's Sub-Packages?
If installed Leopard on an USB Drive today, including
XCode, X11, X11SDK, run the Updates and there was
no compiler Problem for fftw (but some on gtk2 :(
XCode is located in the "Packages" Folder of your
install CD
