Sorry if this double posts.
Here's what I did. It was on a PPC imac running a fresh copy of Leopard
w/ XC3, YMMV.
1 Install MacPorts
2 Start Terminal.app
3 Go to the home directory and create/modify .cshrc, adding the lines:
setenv PATH ${PATH}:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin
setenv MANPATH ${MANPATH}:/opt/local/share/man
4 Quit/restart Terminal.app (you could run 'printenv' to verify that the
new environment variables have taken hold
5 Run 'sudo port selfupdate'
6 Run 'sudo port install gtk2' (At some point I got an error, which said,
in part, "...Image error: /opt/local/bin/a2p is being used by the active
perl5.8 port..." I reran the command and it seemed to complete with no
further errors. I guess this is right thing to do.)
7 Repeat step 6 for the following ports, in order, one port at a time:
gtkglext, fftw-3, libxml, gwyddion.
I seem to recall that just doing 'sudo port install gwyddion' didn't work
but my recollection on this is poor. Also a colleague tried to install it
on a mac that he upgraded from Tiger to Leopard and was not successful. It
may be that you have do a clean system install of Leopard/XC3, an overlay
upgrade may leave too much junk behind.
Although you probably won't need it, Porticus seems nice. Just thought
I'd mention it.
HTH,
eric
