Upgrading XCode to 3.1.2 solved some recent problems I was having in compiling gtk2, perhaps others could try this if they haven't already.
But for getting XCode people have to sign on ADC, which is free, but I don't like the "contract" (and I don't like the point to have sign on some issues to get some working OS). Perhaps Apple should put XCode 3.1.2 in 10.5.6 ;)
And it seems to me that it is quite usual to have to try installing the ports multiple times, in fact, the port command automatically seems to try this when upgrading multiple packages at the same time. Usually when I run "port upgrade outdated" and something fails I then try to install the failed packages one at a time and it often resolves some problems too.
Most of the time I use macports it was not necessary to run the port command multiple times (only for debugging/testing new versions of ports) - but I didn't done "port update outdated" many times ;) (and using 10.4 ;) Q: From your answer, it seems that gwyddion works under 10.5.5 with XCode 3.1.2 (and XQuartz)?
