If you're running on Cache there is a free tool for mapping Fileman to Objects and/or SQL. The routines are in the newest version of Cache. I can send it to you if you're not on the latest release. It takes less than 5 minutes to install, and depending on what you're mapping the SQL table definition creation ranges from a few seconds to several minutes.
Once the mapper completes you can connect via ODBC or JDBC, nothing special required, just use it like you would use any RDBMS, namely a client DLL for ODBC access and a jar file for JDBC. The DLLs and jar files are part of the Cache installation.
