Assuming this is cut&paste of output, "than" rather than "then" makes me giggle!

Well, sometimes my fingers do NOT type what my mind says! Yes, I did typo abit.
Luckily, this am I did find the "eudora.log" file and can send any additional error msgs as recorded!

Since Yahoo does not let @yahoo.com users pop3/smtp I'd have to assume there is a proxy/gateway setup for bellsouth customers and it's causing or getting timeouts from yahoo's server.

Interesting. An intervening proxy seems possible - it may not talk "eudora" and why eudora is posting error msgs about NOT rcvng proper status from ITS' activity..... /comment-Stupid Yahoo!!.... But, as I now seem to have little choice w/ATT tech support, I will now rethink my remaining actions.

For fun I'd being trying OE (just to test).

Understand, but I do not believe I am "locked down" as well as you. I personally consider OE to be an instant invitation to something I do not need. Yes, I do trust ESET, but I have still seen "stuff happen" since 2006. OE is not high on my test plan....................

As to Thunderbird not working I find that highly suspect and would guess there's something wrong with it's setup.

I do accept this. TBird has been in test, but not actively, for 2 months (on another machine). Thunderbird worked fine prior when I was focused to mail.bellsouth.net for both POP and SMTP.
It worked fine w/o errors.
I do agree that I may have TBird settings abit dorked up. Many of the options are confusing; and, even with Mozilla help, I am still confused with many............ I will do a fresh install of TBird here on this machine and gently walk thru all the settings............... The big concern is making sure that TBird captures all the eudora email, mailboxes, phonebook, filters, and current settings. This email business has gotten progressively more complex over the years. JMHO.
Thanks for your helpful comments.......... :)
Best,
Duncan

I recently had to move my email process from a bellsouth.net mail server (?in TX) to an ATT/Yahoo email server in Santa Clara, CA. This switch, with entropy, took ~72hrs.
ATT/Bellsouth seem to report the switch is now complete.
Naturally, nobody at BellSouth or ATT know anything about (or do not like!) Eudora......... :) Along with pointing Eudora to a new POP server and a new SMTP server (at yahoo.com), I was also told to enable SSL and change/use alternate "ports" for these new servers. I think that I have managed to make the proper changes to Eudora. I do seem to get email.................. BUT, not without constant Eudora reported ERRORS. The errors read as follows:
<Dominant>, SSL: 1 message(s) lefte to download., DELE 10 [01:37:50 PM]
There has been an error transferring your mail. I said: DELE 10
and than the POP Server (u...@bellsouth.net@pop.att.yahoo.com) said:
ERR popgate inactivity timeout
1. I have now changed Eudora to "Leave email on the server." Just to see if this error each time I RCV email goes away. 2. If left this way, I will now have to login to att/yahoo's web portal each week to erase my inbox. Bummer! BTW, Mozilla/Thunderbird v2.0.0.21 will not/does not even talk to these new replacement isp email servers at all!
Can I supply any additional info?
Thanks,
Duncan
