nobody is forcing you to buy apple, and osx. While there are people who pick up white box machines, there are countless more that pickup the HP/Dells. Only when you are buying a white box machine do you get a choice to not install any OS and do it yourself at home. I don't understand why it's bad that Apple controls their hardware and software. Nobody complains that you can't run a nintendo os on a sony psp hardware, or vice versa. If I buy a Dell I know I am buying into windows. at least it's not a straight forward way to purchase ubuntu i7 laptops. I just checked. so while I "CAN" go out of my way to download ubuntu, and install. I can't just receive my shiny new laptop open it up and login, and proceed to dump my photos, videos and music into it. I have to first do the wipe/install :-/ thats not tough, but I have to wait I want to use my new shiny laptop now... :)
I've enjoyed the back and forth in this thread, mostly because I was all anti-Apple a few years ago. for the arguments that Apple is a bully and that they don't play fair with their licensing, well... is it a requirement that all companies license their patents to anyone? I do agree that competition is a healthy way to get newer better results for the end user. But does that mean that you have to license off your advantage? You can hate apple or samsung all you want for playing the patent game, but the real issue is the uspto, unless we keep writing to our representatives to get this fixed asap! nothing will ever change. the uspto is what fosters this idea that i can patent a door and from now on anyone who has a door on their home or place of business must pay damages because they didn't license the door from me, with ignorance to previous art. also I'm glad that the amazon kindle fire argument was brought up, and it does help support the walled garden mentality. People are buying more kindle fires with the easy access to the amazon store than any other android tablet because it fosters this mentality of safe purchasing within the walled garden. make of it as you will... -Francisco http://bit.ly/sqlthis | Tsql and More... <http://db.tt/JeXURAx> On Thu, Apr 5, 2012 at 21:09, Joshua MacCraw <[email protected]> wrote: <snip> > > No love lost here, I really dislike Microsoft and many other PC industry > giants for how they play ball BUT at least they aren't forcing me to use > windows nor dictating who I can buy hardware from (yet). > </snip>
