No, C-- was just another assembly language. Actually it was a slightly C-like wrapper language that expected you to drop to assembler for anything hard. Lovely little language, compiled to .COM executables under DOS, and nobody believed you could do useful file manipulation in under a kbyte of object code. Hates? Well, it worked under DOS.
