Hi Mica,

Most haematoxylins will do eg Harris or Mayer's.
I would recommend a light counterstain (it is a counterstain, not the main 
stain).
Differentiate if too strong.

Also periodic acid treatment increases nuclear affinity for Hx so shorten the 
counterstain time.
