Have you somehow forgotten the HUGE projects being worked on right now, especially as they near the release? VAC is FAR more useful than you think.
A while ago VAC was updated something crazy like 9 times in one week, or at least near there. SO many people got banned during that period, it wasn't even funny. When Valve finally releases all of their major projects, this is how regularly I think we'll see VAC being updated. You're a server admin, right? Obviously you can't be on your server all the time, but it's definitely not hard to tell when someone's cheating.
