Ummm... They are hosting a lot of servers in Seattle and DC. They are there to 
provide gamers an alternate official server that is setup the way it was made 
to be. Im sure they will be going international soon too... The reason why they 
made srcds available is for us to play with our friends using our server that 
we ping well to instead of the west and east coast ones that some people may 
not. This isnt TF2 or CSS or DODS, its L4D and dont forget that.

Ummm, if plain servers are the intention here then maybe Valve should
prevent all mods or better yet just host the servers themselves??
